First Book

I always have my nose in a book. Reading is such a big part of our lives that I was stunned to learn from First Book that in most low-income communities there's only one book for every 300 children. So here's what I want to do: I want all of us to get together to provide 50 books for kids. First Book has a special deal with publishers, so you can get 5 books for just $15. Octavia's Cool Classroom is my first drive to raise money for classrooms.

The Miami Day Care Center serves 100 at-risk children, and we simply need more books. The best deal around is from a wonderful nonprofit called First Book. They have a special deal with publishers, which lets us buy new books for just $2.50 each. Please help these children learn to read by supporting this drive.

Studies reveal that the critical factor determining whether a child becomes a reader is access to reading materials, and specifically the presence of books at home. First Book is one of our favorite nonprofits. They have made deals with publishers to print extra books at tremendous discounts, so your donations and ours will go a very long way.
